Frequently Asked Questions

Did the developers abandon the game?

Nope! As of early 2026, we’re still actively improving it. Here you can read the latest Friday Blogs.

When will the game be done?

Colony Survival is ready to be played extensively right now. Huge amounts of players have each spent hundreds of hours building their worlds.
Development will continue as long as players are enthusiastic and we have ideas to make the game better.

I have a suggestion for the game, what do I do with it?

Join the Discord and write a proposal in #general. Tag @Developer. Also feel free to start a Discord thread or post it in the Steam Forums.

Will every update break my savegame and make old worlds unplayable?

No! In over eight years of public development, we’ve required new savegames twice. With the release of 0.7.0 in 2019, and with the release of 0.9.0 in late 2022. These were massive overhauls with entirely new worlds and tech trees.

Older versions of the game are easily available via the betas page on Steam. Colony Survival worlds from every era are still playable right now. No savegame-breaking updates are planned anytime soon, and if it happens it’s like getting an entire sequel for free - with your old world and the old version still available at the press of a button.

Is there a way to get easy access to 24/7 server hosting?

Absolutely. We’re cooperating with BisectHosting. Here’s a beginner’s guide to setting up a server there.

Do mods for Colony Survival exist?

Plenty! You can find them on the Steam Workshop.

Can I play on Linux? Mac? With a controller? On a Steam Deck?

Yes to all of them!

On a console?

Not yet, developing simultaneously for PC and multiple consoles is difficult. We’re hoping to release it on consoles when we finish development,

Okay, you convinced me. I bought it and I love the game! What can I do to help?

That’s amazing to hear :D If you like writing, please share a detailed experience of your playthrough on Discord or the Steam Forums. What parts did you like the most? What parts were frustrating or boring? How many hours did you play, how far did you get, how many colonists did you have in total? What new features did you require instinctively while you played? Such information helps us tremendously!

Leaving a review on Steam is also appreciated. Share your world on the Steam Workshop, or post a blueprint in #blueprints-collection on Discord. Tell your friends about the game - or maybe even gift it to them :) Thanks a lot!
